Senator Leila de Lima confirmed yesterday that she might be
arrested one of these days.
Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II
apparently rushes to file non-bailable cases on drug charges before the court
in order to obtain a warrant of arrest, a reliable source said to de Lima.
“And then here comes very reliable information from within
that they (DOJ) are close to (coming) up with the resolution finding probable
cause against me, and worse, to bring it the regular courts. Why? So that they
can immediately get warrants of arrest,” the senator told reporters.
De Lima told reporters yesterday that her source said that DOJ
are close to coming up with a probable cause for the courts to issue a warrant
of arrest against her.
De Lima expects to face charges on violation of Republic Act
9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act after an alleged connection with
drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, who apparently supported her senatorial bid last May
elections.
She also expects that she might become a lone accused in the
case as her alleged cohorts might become state witnesses.
Being a government official, she expected her probe to be
conducted in Sandiganbayan, with complaints filed before the Office of the
Ombudsman.
