Abu Sayyaf Men Take New Hostages After Freeing Two Captives


On Thursday, March 23, Abu Sayyaf gunmen took new hostages after they freed Malaysian captives held since July 2016.





According to  station commander of the Philippine Coast Guard in Zamboanga City Lt. Commander Alvin Dagalea, the two fresh captives are Capt. Aurelio Agacac and Chief Engr. Laurencio Tiro. He added that these two hostages were kidnapped when pirates seajacked the Panamanian-flagged MV Super Shuttle Roro 9  that was supposedly go to Basilan on Thursday noon.

The seajacking took place near Sibago Island around 12:15 p.m. The Chief of the Western Mindanao Command Major General Carlito Galvez Jr. said before the government troop responded, had been faced the armed suspects in a firefight in Muhammad Ajul town, also in Basilan.

“We tried to rescue them and there was a gunfight and one of the abductors had been captured,” Galvez said.
