Self-confessed hitman of the alleged Duterte Death Squad (DDS) Edgar Matobato surrendered to police authorities Thursday, so he can post bail for his frustrated murder case.
Chief Superintendent Joel Coronel, Manila Police District director, however, explained that while Matobato can post bail, his release will still depend on the court.
It can be recalled that Matobato revealed to a senate investigation in October that he was part of President Duterte's alleged hit squad, when Duterte was still Davao City mayor.
“If the court will order his immediate release then we will have to abide by the order if not he will be detained at such time until they can secure an order," he said.
Matobato will be given police security, according to Coronel.
Digos City's Regional Trial Court Branch 19 had ordered the arrest of Matobato over a frustrated murder case filed by Abeto Salcedo Jr., a retired adjucator of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
Salcedo identified Matobato as the one who shot him on October 23, 2014, as he was stepping out of the DAR regional office in Digos.
The Court set Matobato's bail at P200,000.
