Senator Manny Pacquiao asserted on Monday that the Bible does not allow cross-dressing in his interpellations to anti-discrimination bill filed by another senator.
“Even in the Bible, we can read na ang babae, dapat magsuot na pambabae; at ang lalaki, magsuot nang panlalaki. That’s what I believe,” Pacquiao told Sen. Risa Hontiveros, proponent of Senate Bill 1271.
The said legislative proposal seeks to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation and gender expression.
Pacquiao added that cross-dressing is a form of fraud.
He even cited the case of Jennifer Laude who was killed by US Marine Pfc. Joseph Scott Pemberton in 2014 after learning the victim's real identity.
Pacquaio said that Laude, a transgender, was killed because the perpetrator was just shocked because of her misleading identity due to cross- dressing.
Pacquiao said.
In her defense, Hontiveros said that Pacquiao should not resort to victim-blaming someone who just dressed up based on her sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.
She added that Pacquaio's defense to the crime is unacceptable.
