Pornhub expresses willingness to work with the Philippine government in their drive against child pornography.
The adult-themed website, which was apparently blocked in the country, highlighted that the government is applying the right medicine to the wrong wound.
As of Saturday, various porn websites were banned, only showing a statement saying: "This website has been ordered blocked under authority of the Philippine government pursuant to Republic Act 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Law.”
Affected porn sites were forbidden regardless of their involvement with child pornography.
Banning websites will not halt the industry of child pornographers, instead of, will just allow the promulgation of the business out of government's scrutiny, said Pornhub vice president Corey Price.
The website is strong in its stand that their pages has no traces of any illegal content.
Pornhub, as provided in its Term of Service, users were prohibited to "not to use the Website to... post any Content depicting child pornography, rape, snuff, torture, death, violence, or incest, racial slurs or hate speech, (either aurally or via the written word)".
They added that the move will just push people to move on smaller websites that promote stuff they prohibit.
Child pornography is not just banned in the country but in the world as provided by the Treaty Against Child Pornography.
That's why the move was criticized by internet freedom advocates as banning porn sites is a form of censorship obscuring people's rights to privacy of communications.
Instead of, critics added that the government must go after producers of illegal content.
