Pacquiao Slams Down Talks of Return Fight, Vows to Concentrate on Politics

Boxer turned senator Manny Pacquiao made a buzz following a leaked out story from Top Rank CEO Bob Arum that Pacquiao will take a leave from Senate to lace his boxing gloves again.

Arum told Boxingscene.com that Pacquiao is looking for another opponent for a possible return fight and is working with Senate President Franklin Drilon to figure out how to can go on a break to train.

"He is going to fight. I don’t know what the date is. He is working with the President of the Philippine Senate for an appropriate date where he can leave the Philippines for two or three weeks to prepare for a fight," said Arum.

But Pacquiao was quick to allay talks of possible return fight.

In a statement issued on his official Facebook page, Pacquiao said that his top priority right now is focusing on crafting laws.

"There is no truth to media reports that I’m planning to take a leave from my Senate duties just to fight again atop the ring. I want to make it clear–my priority is my legislative works," Pacquiao said.

The boxer-turned-senator said that when he ran and won during the May 9 polls, he vowed to be present in all sessions in the Congress’ upper chamber.

"I owe it to the people," he said.

Prior to his induction to the Senate, Pacquiao was serving as a Sarangani representative but he was known to be a chronic absentee.

Pacquiao made it clear that if he ever decide to fight again, he promises he won't allow it to interfere with his duties in the Senate.

"If ever I decide to fight again, rest assured it will happen when Congress is on recess so there’s no need for me to go on leave," the senator said.

Pacquiao emphasized that serving in a public office is his passion, not a means to earn money.
