Even though the Olympics is a worldwide game, all eyes are still on the US basketball team. And if these men do not walk out of the 2016 Summer Olympics with the Gold Medal, it'll definitely be a great upset.
For almost all other sports, finishing in the top three in the world is already a great accomplishment. However, for the U.S. team, top three is never enough, especially when all eyes are on you.
But even though the United States are packed with their best NBA players, it's never the same if the best of the best LeBron James and Stephen Curry don't belong in the roster.
This doesn't mean that the U.S. team is already weak without the two MVPs but without them, and also other superstars like Davis and Howard, it may be possible for other countries to upset their journey towards the gold.
Here are the three teams that are possible to upset U.S. team's goal:
- Spain - FIBA World Ranking: 2
Spain has a large number of NBA players which includes the Gasol brothers, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Mirotic and Jose Calderon.
They finished with the silver medal in the last two Summer Olympics.
Spain currently have eight players who are also playing in the NBA. With all that experience against their other league mates in the U.S. team, this gives Spain a massive advantage.
- France - FIBA World Ranking: 5
Though France doesn't have that much NBA players, unlike Spain, they have respective players such as Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, Boris Diaw and Rudy Gobert.
- Argentina - FIBA World Ranking: 4
Other than the United States, Argentina also won a gold medal back 2004. Though Argentina isn't filled with NBA talent, they always play well in World Tournaments.
The team has a few players who either currently play in the NBA, or did at some point in their careers.
Argentina's most notable players include Manu Ginobli, Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni and Carlos Delfino.
