The Warriors aren't the only California basketball team aiming to change venues. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is searching for potential sites for a new Clippers home once their current lease at Staples Center ends in 2024.
An NBA source told ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz that an arena which piques the Clippers' interest is LA's west side. The club itself hasn't confirmed or denied the report yet. But after Ballmer's $2 billion purchase of the Clippers, it's clear that he can drop funds for another site.
Arnovitz writes that the Clippers may want to leave Staples, which they share with the Lakers and the NHL's Kings, because of the nature of their tenancy.
It seems like the Clippers are willing to have a venue which they can have alone. "We're the third guy in, we have third choice in dates," Ballmer told Los Angeles Times in 2015. "If you are a good businessman, you don't come to the end of your lease and say, 'I have no options, landlord, please take me to the woodshed and beat me.' We'll have options."
