Kyle Chalmers got the thrill of a lifetime at the Rio Olympics, not once but twice!
The Australian swimmer secured the gold medal in the men's 100-meter freestyle Wednesday night, but before the victory, he crossed paths with Kevin Durant.
"Last night I was walking over to my semifinals and Kevin Durant walked in front of me," Chalmers told reporters in Rio, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. "To be honest with you I almost vomited. My jaw dropped. I was that excited and nervous. It was just amazing for me."
Chalmers watches the Warriors' star's 2014 MVP speech before every race. So Australian team officials produced a personalized message from Durant to show Chalmers on Wednesday morning.
"I watched you. You've got skills, man," Durant said in an Instagram video posted by Chalmers. "Always USA, but I hope you do well."
And the Assie did by winning gold, hours and hours after receiving the video.
"They had to show it to me this morning because they know I wouldn't be able to focus if I saw it tonight before my race," Chalmers said. "I'm a big fan."
