Erwin Macua is a security guard at St. Theresa's College in Cebu City. He has been working as a security guard in the school for 20 years. Now, he will march as one of the college graduates, and guess what? He is a cum laude.
Macua is now 38-year-old and he hails from Trinidad, Bohol. Before he graduates, he juggled being a security guard, studying, and being a father of 3 children.
"Age is not a hindrance, poverty is not a hindrance. Just pursue your dream with the formula: hard work plus determination plus prayer and you will reach your aspirations in life," Macua said.
According to him, it has always been his dream to finish his studies and get a diploma. He actually wants to be a teacher because he has developed a special affection for children.
"Education is a good course to deal with students and you can really change their lives," he said.
He kept some small savings and he used it to pay for his first year in college. Aside from that, he was sponsored by an anonymous donor for his remaining years in school, according to ABS-CBN.
Now Macua a graduate. he is now looking forward to self-reviewing and preparing for the licensure exams for teachers while working as a security guard.
