Pacquiao on Death Penalty: 'Nagkataon Lang na Inosente si Jesus Christ'

Senator Manny Pacquiao once again defended his stand on death penalty saying that it has long existed since the time Jesus Christ was persecuted.

"Ang ibig ko lang sabihin, noon pa man ay may batas na ng parusang kamatayan ang government. Nagkataon lang na inosente si Jesus Christ," he said in an interview on Wednesday.

The defense apparently is addressed to the recent statement of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) indicting Jesus Christ, Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio are victims of death penalty, and alike death of the innocent must not happen again.

"The Lord, Jesus Christ, died because of death penalty. He was crucified. Jose Rizal died because of death penalty. Andres Bonifacio died because of death penalty. All three died being innocent," Villegas said.

Pacquiao even justified that the death of Jesus Christ happened that way to save mankind.
However, Villegas argued saying that it is an "exact opposite" of what Jesus wants.

"When Jesus died on the cross, voluntarily accepting death, he accepted death so that there will be no longer be more deaths. He made his death as the last one. So there will be no more deaths from injustice or oppression. Yet the dying and killings continue," Villegas said.

The senator stay strong to his stand that the government is ordained by God to impose death penalty.

“Sa Panginoon, biblically, binibigyan ng Panginoon ng karapatan ang government to use capital punishment,” Pacquiao claimed.
