LOOK: San Miguel Corp to Build P700B Airport in Bulacan

San Miguel Corporation presented an unsolicited proposal to build an international "aerotropolis" in Bulacan.

The proposal that would cost about P700 billion will be completed in almost six years.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Roberto Lim revealed on Wednesday the review of the said proposal that it may soon replace Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In the said proposal, an estimated 2,500 hectares of land along Manila Bay in Bulakan, Bulacan will be the new home to an airport and a city complex.

Apart from NAIA's two runways, the new airport will have six parallel runways that will not intersect each other.

Lim added however, that it will only have two runways with 3.5 km length initially but could accommodate even the largest passenger plane.

Unlike NAIA's 31 million passengers design capacity, the new airport could accommodate 100 million per year.

The proposal was created through the build-operate-transfer scheme that will give SMC 50 years to operate the facility.

To better transportation from Manila, an expressway was included in the plan that could offer 1-hour travel from SM City North EDSA.

It will also be connected with the projected MRT station that will be situated in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

A 30-minute travel will also be guaranteed for passengers coming from Entertainment City in Pasay with the construction of a "shoreline expressway."

The need for a new airport is essential as NAIA has already been operating beyond its design capacity.
