Special awards at the Miss Universe competitions are usually given before the announcement of the Final 13. Sometimes, before the revelation of the Final 6 or Final 3. This year, however, we missed to hear who won Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic.

After the Final 9 was announced, the Best in National Costume award was given to Miss Myanmar Htet Htet Htun with her 40-kilogram costume, which she said "represents figures of traditional puppetry."

According to Paula Shugart, Miss Universe Organization president, they didn't have enough time to present the other special awards.
"Honestly, we didn't have time... There was so much that we wanted to fit into the show."
But according to her, it was Miss Korea who was voted by fellow candidates as Miss Congeniality, while Miss Albania won Miss Photogenic.
Miss Korea Jenny Kim is a 23-year-old college student taking up degrees in International Office Administration, and English Language and Literature.
Miss Albania Lindita Idrizi is a 20-year-old Social Science student from Elbasan, Albania.
