Pia Wurtzbach to Appear as Judge on New 'Asia's Next Top Model'

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will appear on an episode on the upcoming Cycle 5 of "Asia's Next Top Model" as a guest judge, it was announced on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Filipino-German beauty queen will be joining celebrity photographer-director Yu Tsai and supermodel Cara G. McIlroy on the panel, to be headed by the show's host, Thai-American model Cindy Bishop.

Rumors about Wurtzbach's appearance on the popular model-search competition first surfaced on the internet in September. It gained more attention after she was photographed filming for the show with the other judges.

The number of episodes she will appear in remains unclear at this moment.

After the announcement, hundreds of fans flooded the show's Facebook page, some showing their support while others were offering skepticism. Some viewers believe that Filipina contestants were robbed of a win in the previous cycles (seasons) of the show.

In 2014 and 2015, top Filipina contenders finished as runners-up. Jodily Pendre finished behind Cycle 2 winner from Malaysia, Sheena Liam, while Monika Sta. Maria failed to beat Cycle 3's winner from Indonesia, Ayu Gani.

In Cycle 3, Filipina models appeared on the show. Georgina Wilson was the main host while Joey Mead King served as a judge-mentor.

No premiere date for the fifth season of "Asia's Next Top Model" has been announced.
