Professional wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnshon, was officially named as the world's highest paid actor according to Forbes Celebrity 100 released yesterday, July 13.
Johnson, who reportedly started out with only $7 in his pocket in 1995, has brought in a total of $64.5 million earnings in the 15 years since his silver screen debut in The Mummy Returns.
Placing 19th on the Forbes' list of "The World's Highest-Paid Celebrities Of 2016," Johnson outranked all other celebrities in the movie industry.
“Receiving news like this will always serve as my anchoring reminder to continue to work even harder,” the actor said in his announcement on Instagram. “We not only want to ‘embrace the grind’, but take the grind to new levels.”
His motivation, he said, is akin to a wolf scratching at the door. "[The wolf is] scratchin' cause he's hungry and never satisfied."
The 44-year-old Hollywood blockbuster mainstay has appeared in seven films that have grossed more than $100 million, since he first appeared in the fifth movie of the Fast and the Furious movie series in 2011.
Johnson founded with partner and ex-wife Dany Garcia the Seven Bucks Productions, named for a pivotal moment in his biography when he only had $7 in his pocket after his stint in the Canadian Football League ended in 1995.
“I looked in my pocket, and I had seven bucks,” he told reporters. “Wow. Seven bucks to my name.”
