Lakers, Wizards won't get Kevin Durant, but Knicks might

Teams are starting to fall off Kevin Durant's free agency list, with K.D.'s free-agency situation coming into clarity quickly.

On Friday night, news came up with the initial list of teams expected to meet with Durant, as headlined by the hometown Thunder, Warriors and Spurs.

On Saturday, Sam Amick of USA Today has reported that Durant's original-hometown Wizards and the Los Angeles Lakers will not be getting meetings, though the New York Knicks actually might.

The New York Knicks have earned their way into Durant's list after acquiring Derrick Rose to create a strong combination with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis.

However, things are too early to assume and still may change in time.

The Lakers are quite off with the pace. The Lakers are looking to make major jumps, even with a young core. But the team doesn't have a good background when it comes getting meetings with free agents such as Carmelo Anthony and LaMarcus Aldridge. Though the Lakers is known to currently have a fresh lineup with D'Angelo Russle, Jordan Clarkson, No.2 pick Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle, it is certainly doubtful that the Lakers even expect to get a meeting.

It is a huge crushing disappointment for the Wizards though. The Wizards prepared their summer in order to make a pitch for Durant to return to D.C. where he grew up but instead got slumped and winding up missing the playoffs. The Wizards signed Durant's old coach Scott Brooks, though this is not the reason for the hire. But being rejected to have a meeting is a huge slap in the face.

The Knicks, however, are thrilled to be in. After acquiring Derrick Rose, the Nicks are ready to shuffle and gamble for more. Since Derrick Rose comes with a huge amount of injury risk on the last year of the deal, Kevin Durant might just fill up the room, which might be worth the gamble. The Knicks is also planning on stacking a traditional "super-team" with Rose, Durant, Anthony and potentially another star center.

The heat is on to Durant. However, the tension has to wait and the decisions may still change before he makes it final in July.
