J.K. Rowling backed up the British actress Noma Dumezweni for taking the role of the brainy Hermione Granger in the London theater production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, saying "a bunch of racists" won't bother her or stop her from supporting the black actress.
Hermione Granger was originally portrayed by Emma Watson in all Harry Potter films and for the said series author, it really doesn't matter if Hermione is black or white. She also stated that the character "can be a black woman with her absolute blessing and enthusiasm."
Rowling also called Dumezweni the "best actress for the job." She also said that Hermione's race was never described in the books.
