Russia's largest cybercriminal arrest happened with the help of the security supremes, Kaspersky Lab, with the Lurk gang of 50 people arrested.
With almost all business and money transfers going though the computers and mobile devices and through the internet, there will always be a threat when it comes to security. It is always needed to have a security company that is going to go way more than just the extra mile to protect customers and help catch criminals.
This is done by using "targeted, advanced and persistent" actions of its own to identify those threats, shut them down and work with law enforcement to put cybercriminals out of business.
kaspersky Lab's experts and those of Sherbank (one of Russia's largest banks) held hand in hand and worked closely with Russian law enforcement agencies to investigate into the Lurk gang which resulted to arresting 50 people.
Those detained are suspected of involvement in infecting computer networks that resulted in theft of more than US$45 million from banks, other financial institutions and businesses since 2011.
It is recorded to be the largest arrest of hackers ever.
In 2011, Kaspersky Lab reported that it "detected the activity of an organized cybercriminal gang using the Lurk Trojan -- a sophisticated, universal and multi-modular malware with wide functionality -- to gain access to victims' computers."
Kaspersky Lab identifies that Lurk Trojan.Win32.Lurk, Trojan-Banker.Win32.Lurk and/or Trojan-Spy.Win32.Lurk.
Ruslan Stoyanov, head computer incidents investigation at Kaspersky Lab, said that the Kaspersky Lab experts were involved in the law enforcement investigation into Lurk. He also added that their company's experts analysed the malicious software and idenfifies the hackers' network of computers and servers, armed with that knowledge that Russian Police to identify suspects and gather evidence of the committed crime.
During the arrest, the Rissian police managed to prevent transmission of fake money transactions worth more than US$30 million.
Naturally, Kaspersky Lab has such a solution to hand, designed to detect targeted attacks includes an intelligent system to analyze such anomalies. It is called the 'Kaspersky Anti Targeted Attack Platform'.
