An official petition for a second EU vote has been submitted with over 2 million signatures and counting, after Britain's historical vote for a Brexit (Britain exit) on Thursday, June 23.

"We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum," the petition reads.

The petition was created by a certain William Oliver Healy.

Briefly crashing the government website due to its popularity, the petition is now the biggest petition in the site's history.

Official petition rules indicate that the government needs to respond after 10,000 signatures and after 100,000 signatures, it is mandated to be considered for a debate in Parliament.

The petition's aim for a 75 percent turnout is quite ambitious, reports say, as it is far higher than recent general elections turnout of 66.1 percent. Thusday saw a 72.2 percent turnout.

A debate in Parliament is a good way to raise the profile of an issue with the law makers.

However, unfortunately for those dissatisfied with the referendum result, even if the petition is debated, a second vote is not guaranteed as it will have no legal weight.
