An eight-year-old kid died after being attacked with a hammer by his mom's ex boyfriend who attempted to rape his 7-year-old sister.
Dante died as a hero on Sept. 6 after rescuing his younger sister from an alleged sexual assault.
The young boy from Sacramento, California was beaten with a hammer and eventually died from his injuries, relatives claimed.
“Trying to save his sister from this child molester, and that’s why he was beat the worst,” Monique Brown, his grandmother added.
Brown added that her grandson, who was in his third grade now, is a “sensitive” boy.
Upon his death, his heart was donated to a child in Southern California.
“A 4-year-old lives because of [him],” she noted.
Deandre Chaney Jr., 23, will face charges for killing the son of his ex-girlfriend and for sexually assaulting her daughter.
He was arrested in Winnemucca, Nevada, on Sept. 2.
While his sister still needs a lot of medical help, his mother will likely have permanent blindness because of the attack.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched by his family to aid in their medical expenses. As of early Monday afternoon, more than $22,000 were raised.
