Cats are known to very flexible and they seem to always land on their feet, thus the proverbial line saying they have 9 lives. But falling from a building 20 floors high, their 9 lives may not be enough.
Several times this cat almost fell from this air conditioning enclosure outside a 20th floor condo unit in Mandaluyong City.
The feline was first spotted to have been stranded on Friday, March 17, but since cats are known to be very agile, its neighbor Ella Gulfan must have thought it could find its way back in. She also thought the cat was a house pet of the condo unit owners.
"In-assume namin na pet sya ng nakatira doon, tapos na-realize namin na stucked na nga talaga kasi sinisilip namin yung ibabaw, yung gilid, sarado lahat," Ella said.
Some time on Tuesday, five days passed, Ella noticed that the cat was still in the same spot and can't seem to get back inside the unit. That was when she and her friends decided to get assistance from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
"Ang alala namin, buong weekend sya do'n, which means wala talaga syang pagkain saka tubig," was Ella's concern.
The owners of the unit were not in but the BFP notified the condo owners of the rescue operation of the poor mammal.
From inside the unit, the BFP members had to uninstall the air conditioning unit so they could pass through the AC window and the feline buddy finally got rescued.
You could hear the cat's wail of agony and relief from the rescue.
BFP's FO1 Michael Bruan described how weakened and hungry the cat has been: "Yung pag-meow nya ...medyo gutom na talaga, mahina."
"Lahat po ng buhay mahalaga dito sa mundo, kaya kahit ano pong buhay kailangan natin i-save maski pa hayop man 'to." Bruan said.
According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), people saving the animals are most likely the same people to save human lives.
"Ang mga tao who take the time to save an animal are actually the best types of people because they will make the effort, extraordinary efforts, to also save human lives," said a PAWS representative.
The rescued feline has been fed and has now been adopted by Ella's work colleague. They named him "Robbie."
