Unidentified Gunmen Abducted Duterte' Couple in Zamboanga

Unidentified gunmen apparently abducted a couple with surname Duterte in Siocon, Zamboanga, del Norte on Friday.

Regional police spokesman Supt. Rogelio Alabata confirmed that a coconut farmer named Jose Duterte and his wife Jessica were kidnapped by seven gunmen wearing bonnets.

Officials noted that the the couple is not related to President Rodrigo Duterte by blood and were not from an affluent family.

They were dragged into a pump boat which had brought them to an unknown direction.

It was also noted that suspects wore police uniforms.

Policemen joined the military in hunting down gunmen and to rescue the people, Siocon police commander Chief Insp. Joseph Reales Maulad said

Police investigator PO2 Siegfried de la Cruz said that the couple survives in tilling their own land and the snatch may have done to forced them out of their property.

“The brains of the abduction might be from the same area and hired outsiders just to force the victims into selling their properties,” De la Cruz said.

However, Defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana strongly believes that Abu Sayyaf was behind the abduction.

“They did it again in Zamboanga Sibugay last night (Friday),” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.
