Photos of over 3,000 inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center drew flak online after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) leave them naked in an open court.
Many netizens found PDEA's apparent greyhound operation at dawn of February 28 inhumane.
PDEA Regional Director Yogi Felimon Ruiz said that the raid happened after receiving reports from Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III that illegal drugs and other contrabands exists behind the bars.
From the said operation, through the assistance of the military, they were able to obtain 80 cellphone units, laptops, bladed weapons, P90,000 cash, and 19 sachets of suspected shabu.
Inmates were undressed as part of precautionary measures to ensure a peaceful operation and to prevent a riot as well, Ruiz added.
They were sent to the open court naked while searching inside their cell.
He discovered that prisoners were allowed to hold their keys while jail guards were used to just call them to open the bars for them.
Davide, however, ordered jail guards to be relieved from office.
