Leni Still Sad with P1M Allocation for People Power Commemoration

Vice President Leni Robredo expressed disappointment on Tuesday after the government only allocated P1 million for the celebration of  People Power day on February 25.

“This anniversary is an event that to me deserves a more dignified treatment than a ‘quiet celebration’,” Robredo said in a speech yesterday.

MalacaƱang initially said that the 31st EDSA anniversary will be a simple and quiet celebration this year.

She added that the past should not be forgotten to “ensure quality of direction in our future.”

Robredo pointed out that moving on may pose a danger for a history waiting to be repeated.

Event organizers lead by Presidential adviser on entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion III said that the event is meant to reflect on the lessons of the peaceful revolution.

They are denying allegations that the simplicity of the rite to commemmorate 1986 revolution has something to do with alleged kinship of the President to Marcos family.

Apparently, former President Fidel Ramos and Benigno Aquino III were already invited in the rites that will be held in Camp Aguinaldo.

President Rodrigo Duterte was expected to be the keynote speaker of the program but his presence is still uncertain.

Unlike previous celebration, there will be no reenactment of the iconic "salubungan" this year.
