Lawyer Wants Robredo be Summoned for Alleged Contempt of Court

After questioning the legality of Senator Leila de Lima's arrest, a lawyer on Saturday wants Vice President Leni Robredo to be cited in contempt of court.

"Palagay ko isama na natin sa contempt of Court si Vice President Robredo for undermining the fate of the people and the Judiciary," said Ferdinand Topacio, lawyer of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

This is in connection with Robredo's remark stating that the arrest of de Lima “is the latest move in a persistent campaign of political harassment being waged against a duly elected member of Congress.”

The senator was arrested over drug charges in an order issued by  the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 204 on Thursday.

Topacio insisted that this "momentous event" is not politically-motivated.

"Walang magic dito, walang impluwensiya dito. Hindi siya ikinulong dahil siya ay kritiko ni Pangulong Duterte, that is beside the point," he added.

Negros Occidental Rep. Jacinto "Jing" Paras also said that the Vice President, being a lawyer, should have respected the court order issued by Judge Juanita Guerrero.

"Nakakahiya sa isang Vice President, abogado pa naman siya, to call it a political harassment," Paras said.

Paras noted that the statement of the Vice President doesn't just questions the case of de Lima but the integrity of the judiciary as a whole.
