Iza Calzado apologized to netizens who got offended for her recent post on Instagram stating her interest to portray former first lady Imelda Marcos in a movie, noting she felt sad on how people became "opinionated and sensitive" about her sentiments.
On Thursday, January 19, Calzado put on an Imelda-inspired costume at Tip Yap's birthday costume party.
“Decided to channel my inner Imelda Marcos for the party since I love shoes and I love wearing the terno just like Madame Imelda!” Calzado said in her post.
In another post, she she expressed her desire to portray her in a film for the former first lady's "interesting character study."
Calzado's posts drew criticism from netizens, which led the actress to explain and apologize on Sunday, January 22. She clarified that she does not idolize Imelda Marcos, now an Ilocos Norte representative insisting that she is only interested to portray her in a film.
I never stated that I idolize Imelda. I clearly stated that I channeled a part of her, which I resonate with, love for shoes and terno.— Izadora Calzado (@MissIzaCalzado) January 22, 2017

Opinionated and sensitive about EVERYTHING.. even a PARTY COSTUME! Is this the kind of society we want? A greatly divided nation?— Izadora Calzado (@MissIzaCalzado) January 22, 2017
Calzado apologized to those offended by her posts, which she said was not her intention.
Kung may nasaktan man ako, patawad. Again, my intention was never to hurt or offend you. This will be my last tweet about this. Peace.— Izadora Calzado (@MissIzaCalzado) January 22, 2017
