Teen's Facebook Post Cost Her Dad $80,000

"Mama and Papa Snay won the case against Gulliver. Gulliver is now officially paying for my vacation to Europe this summer. SUCK IT."

Perhaps the most costly post on Facebook was from a teenager in Miami when she uploaded a picture captioned with a message related to her father's case.

Patrick Snay, was the former head of Gulliver Preparatory School. While most people would want to retire at 65, some at 60, at age 69, he still wanted to serve as a professional educator but the school declined to renew his contract.

Because of this, Snay decided to file a discrimination complaint against the institution.

In November 2011, the school and Snay came to an agreement in which Snay would be paid $10,000 in back pay, $60,000 for attorneys' fees and $80,000 for the settlement.

But before the ink could dry on the deal, Snay's daughter, Dana, took to Facebook, bragging:

"Mama and Papa Snay won the case against Gulliver. Gulliver is now officially paying for my vacation to Europe this summer. SUCK IT."

With 1,200 followers, which included current and former students from Gulliver's, it didn't take long before the post reached school officials.

Within a few days, Gulliver School notified Snay's attorneys stating that Snay had broken a confidentiality agreeement, revoking him of the $80,000 settlement.

The initial agreement stated that neither Snay nor his wife could speak about the settlement to anyone except for his lawyers and professional advisers.

Snay filed a motion to still enforce the settlement and he won in a Circuit Court ruling. The school appealed.

A hearing was held to determine if his daughter's knowledge of the settlement had violated the confidentiality agreement.

In 2014, the Third District Court of Appeal for the State of Florida deemed that Snay had in fact violated the confidentiality clause and reversed the Circuit Court ruling.

The ruling wrote: "Snay violated the agreement by doing exactly what he had promised not to do. His daughter then did precisely what the confidentiality agreement was designed to prevent, advertising to the Gulliver community that Snay had been successful in his age discrimination and retaliation case against the school.

"Based on the clear and unambiguous language of the parties' agreement and Snay's testimony confirming his breach of its terms, we reverse the order entered below granting the Snays' motion to enforce the agreement."

Snay is now the headmaster at Riviera Preparatory School in Coral Gables, Florida.

Dana didn't get the vacation she bragged about.
