The skeletal remains of five persons alleged linked to illegal were found cemented underneath the staircase of a residential building at the Islamic Center in Quiapo, Manila.
The discovery was made when children playing near the compound complained of fouls smell coming from the building.
Police officers believe that the five persons were victims of a drug syndicate that once made the place their hideout. The area has been vacant for some time after the former barangay chairman got killed for involvement in illegal drugs trade.
According to OIC chairman Yusof Guinto, the five were either drug pushers who owes debt to the syndicate or wealthy people who were forced inside the hideout and never got out.
Nearby residents share stories in the the neighborhood that everytime someone was killed, cement was poured over the victims until until the layers of cement would pile up high enough to cover the bodies.
Some of the victims have long been dead because only their bones remained, the Manila Police District explained.
To identify the bodies of the victims, the skeletons will have to be reconstructed, which will take time.
Authorities will continue searching the area to find out if more bodies are buried there.
