President Rodrigo Duterte expressed enthusiasm to what he found as similarity between him and the new United States President Donald Trump.
“Look at his inaugural speech, he will stop drugs. God-will, we’re not different from each other,” Duterte said in a speech during the 55th birthday celebration of Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa held in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
In Trump's inaugural speech last weekend, he announced that he would curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in US.
He added that drugs had “stolen too many lives" and had robbed America of "so much unrealized potential.”
With that, Duterte apparently sees resemblance with his US counterpart's drive against drugs.
Tagging Trump as "impish", Duterte believes that his new friend could also kill individuals who are into the illegal drug trade.
“He (Trump) would really kill [those involved in illegal drug trade]. You know, Trump – do not be too complacent – he’s impish. But he would not be billionaire if he really thinks like an impish,” he explained.
It was remembered that Trump, through a phone call with Duterte, had already expressed support with Philippines' war on drugs.
