"A Veiled Threat," Says De Lima of Duterte’s Speech

Senator Leila de Lima expresses concern on President Rodrigo Duterte recent speech about the killing of narco-politics, saying that the mention of her name is a "veiled threat" to her life.

“I take it as a veiled threat. Why all of a sudden babanggitin ako tungkol sa patayan (I’m being mentioned when it comes to killing). Is that a subcounscious Freudian slip? Alam ko naman yan (I have known that) I’m always on top of his mind,” De Lima said.

Duterte in his recent speech warned mayors in his narco list to resign; otherwise, they may be killed.

Though it was not stated directly nor the mention of her name was directed to the killing in the President's speech, De Lima insisted that the threat to her life was there.

“You just have to read between the lines. The idea that I’m part of the threat or being threatened is there... is very much in existence. The intention is there,” the lady senator said.

De Lima said she is pointing the finger at the President as the mastermind should something untoward happens to her. “Note my word. If something happens to me, he is the one responsible directly or indirectly. Paulit ulit nila ko dine-demonize (They keep on demonizing me)!”

She intends to increase her security and may possibly bring up the issue with Senate President Aquilino Pimintel III, who had offered to tighten her security detail.

De Lima also took offense at Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II for labeling her "drug queen" and "public enemey no. 1."

The senator plans next week to file before the Supreme Court a petition for a Writ of Amparo to protect herself against any threats to her life.
