Winning Over China, Vietnam Bags First Ever Olympics Gold





41-year old Xuan Vinh Hoang of Vietnam takes home the country's first ever gold medal in Olympic Games after beating local favorite Felipe Wu of Brazil in a gripping 10-metre air pistol in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the final match, the Vietnamese army member racked up a score of 202.5 in 20 shots, just 0.4 of a point ahead of the 24-year-old Wu who took home Brazil's first medal from Rio 2016.

China's Pang Wei took bronze while defending champion Jin Jong-ih of South Korea failed to recover from an ill start and finished fifth.



"Making this gold medal is a life memory, never forget this,” he said. “Because [it is the] first time making a gold medal for Vietnam."

Hoang noted that Wu was a tough athlete to beat. "The Brazilian shooter very fast and stronger, but I think only 'try try try'. On the last shot I don't think gold or silver. I think only try."

Wu as just as delighted to give the home crowd something to cheer during the match which captivated the locals.
