WATCH: Senator Sotto's 'Victim-Shaming' Comments That Lead to MTRCB Inquiry

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned the producers of noontime show "Eat Bulaga" after netizens called out senator Tito Sotto for his controversial victim-shaming comments live on television.

In a letter dated July 11, MTRCB has invited TAPE Inc. president Antonio Tuviera, senior vice-president Malou Choa-Fagar and Eat Bulaga creative head Jenny Ferre, to an inquiry over the remarks that appears to be insensitive to women.

In an episode of the noontime show last Saturday, July 9, Sotto drew criticism for his remarks implying that it was the victim's fault that she was taken advantage of by a male friend while she was drunk. He and his co-hosts Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola also called out the woman for wearing short shorts.

"Kasalanan ng lahat ng iyan eh ang paginom. Kababae mong tao pa-shot shot ka?" Sotto told the woman, also the winner of the show's "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment.

MTRCB chair Eugenio Villareal said they have seen "concerns raised over social media" regarding Sotto's remarks. He attached two articles on the issue and post on Twitter urging MTRCB to investigate.

The inquiry is scheduled on July 21.

In the Eat Bulaga episode, the woman told hosts about how she was taken advantage of by a male friend while she was drunk. This confession led Sotto and the other hosts to advise that women should not be drinking and should not be wearing revealing clothes.

The victim-blaming statements drew much criticism on social media.
