WATCH: 'Ghost Fish' Seen for First Time Deep Under the Pacific

A living ghost fish was spotted for the first time on the ocean's deep surface.

An eel-like creature in the family of Aphynidae, roughly four-inch long fish with eerie with skin and tadpole-like tail was captured on camera on a ridge about 8200 feet underwater in the Pacific.

This type of fish is commonly found dead, dwelling in the water column, or down near the bottom of the ocean. This is the first time for researchers to actually see an alive one.

According to NOAA, that fish has no scales and is "transparent" and "gelatinous."

Shirley Pomponi compared the ghost fish to the dragon from the movie NeverEnding Story.
