Pope Francis played an important role in the advanced screening of a Filipino-produced film at the Vatican, according to the Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
CBCP News recently reported that the film "Ignacio de Loyola," which was produced by Jesuit Communications Philippines (JesCom), was screened at a Vatican theater last June 14 thanks to the Pope.
According to the report, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle said that it was the pontiff who facilitated the film viewing at the Vatican.
“Although the Pope was not able to watch it, he arranged [the film’s screening],” Tagle said.
Tagle apparently spoke with the Pope about the idea of screening "Ignacio de Loyola." Francis then referred him to Italian Msgr. Dario Vigano, the director of the Vatican's communications operations.
JesCom executive director Fr. Emmanuel Alfonso, meanwhile, said the Vatican also offered to screen "Ignacio de Loyola" over an Italian televion network.
Alfonso said that they prefer the film to be shown in theaters first.
"Ignacio de Loyola" chornicles de Loyola's torturous struggle to turn from darkness to light, a struggle that gave opened to a spiritual weapon that continues to save lives to this day.
“Ignacio de Loyola” will premiere in the Philippines on July 27.
