What was meant to be a help-giving TV segment has become a serious social issue that has blown out of the water.
Entertainment legend and public servant Senator Tito Sotto III was slammed by some netizens over his "victim-blaming" remarks to the winner of "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment on Eat Bulaga dated July 9.
Sotto explained his side of the story by saying: "It was a simple reaction saying that a married lady should not be out at night having shots (or drinking) with men other than her husband. Talagang mapapagbintangan ka"
The winner shared her backstory about her male friend taking advantage of her while she was drunk.
Tito Sotto reprimanded the woman, saying she shouldn't be drinking in the first place: "Kasalanan ng lahat ng 'yan ng pag-inom... Kababae mong tao pa-shot-shot ka"
Eat Bulaga host Jose Manalo also commented about the clothing of the winner: "Anong suot mo? Naka-shorts ka, 'no?"
The segment drew negative reactions from the netizens, claiming that the remarks of Tito Sotto is offensive to women.
The netizens also brought up the issues of rape culture, victim-blaming, and self-entitlement, which might have been fueled via Sotto's remarks.
The complaint has reached MTRCB and plans to summon Tito Sotto before them.
