Former Ateneo star and basketball prodigy Kiefer Ravena has yet to make his mind whether to focus on Gilas cadets program or join the PBA Draft.
"The Phenom" has already been enlisted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to form a national team that will compete in the future tournaments, but has yet to get an official offer.
Ravena explained that offers have yet to be made to all of the cadets. He further added that contracts are still being arranged.
"Wala pa namang offer with all the cadets. Wala pa talaga kasi marami pa silang inaayos (sa contract details), kung three years ba, five years ba, or pwede magpa-draft pero ganito ganyan?"
An issue about the conflicting interests between PBA and SBP has been raised earlier.
The professional league is worried that top draft picks are being held to crossroads where they have to choose between PBA or Gilas cadets program.
The worry is that this may result in a diminished level of competition, if the prospects were to choose to play for the national team.
To address this conflict, Alaska owner Fred Uytengsu earlier suggested to the PBA and SBP that amateur stars who will be signed to long-term Gilas contracts be allowed to enter the draft.
As for Ravena, he is open to all options.
"Open naman yung possibility na I could do the cadets or enter the draft. We’ll see," Ravena said. "Ang importante, it’s just me being ready for whatever is in front of me, especially ngayon na professional career na, so yun na ang iniisip mo."
If he where to choose, Ravena bared that he will remain on that crossroad until he hears the offers of both sides.
"Open lahat. No percentage na mas gusto ko sa ganito kaysa sa ganito," the former UAAP MVP out of Ateneo said. "Hindi ko masabi kasi ayaw ko magsalita ng tapos eh, kasi wala pa akong nakikita na anything eh. Puro sabi lang na, ‘Ganito ang mangyayari.’"
"Titingan pa namin ng parents ko," he added.
