10 Sequels That Took More Than 10 Years in the Making

If you think "Independence Day: Resurgence" is the only sequel that took over a decade to hit screens, think again.

Here are just a few of those movies that will get their own sequels after a decade or more. Are these YAY or NAY?

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004); Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016)

Bridget first appeared with her zany diary reflecting and rollercoaster ride determination towards martyrdom back in 2001. By 2004, Jones already found happiness with Mr. Darcy and now, after 12 years she's back with a surprise! A baby! It is expected to make its comeback this September, with Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth.

Finding Nemo (2003); Finding Dory (2016)

Back in 2003, we had a total adventure tracking down nemo and now back safely in the sea. After 13 years, it's Dory's time to shine, even the voice actress Ellen DeGeneres wasn't expecting it. Ten days after its release, the movie already grossed $285.6 million at the box office, making it the sixth highest domestic earner in 2016.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989); Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Harrison Ford is really busy! We just saw him get back as his iconic role Han Solo in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens but a few rumors are still staying that the other iconic role Indiana Jones might come back to life again. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skill came 12 years after the previous installment yet didn't excite people that much at all. However, with both Ford and Steven Spielberg returning for a tandem, another sequel is expected to come in 2019. And yes, the Chris Pratt as Indie is no longer an option. No more remakes. Just more sequels.

Mary Poppins (1964); Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

It's been more than 50 years since Julie Andrews' Mary Poppins and her umbrella. Now, there is an upcoming sequel to be released in 2018, with Emily Blunt taking the iconic jolly role of Poppins and making her return to the lives of a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985); Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Mad Max: Fury Road was originally scheduled to be done in 1997 until it got cut and lost and got back up in theaters after 30 years. The 2015 sequel, staring Tom Hardy, took one hell of a ride with hyped fans and lead to be the highest grossing film in the Mad Max franchise, with 10 nominations. Will there be another sequel? Yes. Mad Max: The Wasteland is said to be on its way.

Dumb and Dumber (1994); Dumb and Dumber To (2014)

Getting dumber. Uhuh. The 2014 sequel came 20 years after the original film with Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dune, back as the dumbests ever. The movie also maintained the original duo of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.

Basic Instinct (1992); Basic Instinct 2 (2006)

It took the 1992 movie Basic Instinct 14 years before it gets a sequel just because of some troubles on casting the lead male role. While Michael Douglas chose not to reprise his role, Sharon Stone did return to take on the fierce sexy role.

Jurassic Park III (2001); Jurassic World (2015)

Jurassic Park took 2001 to 2015 for movie producers to follow the third part. However, some theories say that Jurassic World is something in between the series and that might have disregarded the Lost World or Jurassic Park III. Yet, the sequel still made it, lead by the killer performances by Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and the hideous hybrid predator Indominus Rex. Better not forget Chris Pratt's little girls too. Another sequel is scheduled to be released for June 2018.

Toy Story 2 (1999); Toy Story 3 (2010)

It took 11 years for Pixar to follow up 1999's Toy Story 2, with Andy all-grown up and heading to college. The 2010 sequel shows Woody, Buzz and the gang deal with dangerous surroundings of Sunnyside Daycare and fighting against the purple angry teddy bear, Lots-o'. Expecting to find a new loving home, Toy Story will get another sequel in 2018.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983); Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

32 years after Return of the Jedi, the Force finally has awaken and back to tackle the fresh new generation of heroes. The exciting release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015 broke a ton of box office records, scored five Academy Awards nominations. However, the Star Wars fever doesn't end there. With the semi-sequel Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to hit the theaters soon, two more sequels are expected to due in theaters in 2017 and 2019.
