YouTube adds livestream option right from its mobile app

YouTube has finally caught up with the livestream battle.

YouTube announced that it is adding capability to broadcast live video right from its mobile app. This feature is said to be rolling out to select creators first, but is expected to roll out to more people later on.

Though YouTuve has had livestreaming capabilities long before, it was limited to those with verified channels and would be done through the Creator Studio. It also puts the service into competition with Twitter's Periscope and Facebook's Live video option.
Since it's built right into the YouTube mobile app, it is expected to be quite easy to learn and use. All you have to do is tap on a big red button in the lower righthand side of the screen, take a selfie for the video thumbnail, and then proceed to broadcast. All your videos will be able to be found right on your YouTube channel and the service lets you search, review recommendations, and protect them from authorized usage.

The interface lets you notify your subscribers when you're broadcasting, enable chat, and even specify whether the livestream should be viewable by the public or not.

It is no longer a surprise that YouTube enters this competition along with the fact that it's natively all about video and has the ability to cater its service to all types of creators, whether they be amateurs, celebrities, or even professional broadcasters.

But whether or not it can overcome the network effect that Facebook and Twitter have in terms of sharing content still remains to be seen. Now this is one interesting battle.

It will be available on all mobile platforms where YouTube app is, including iOS and Android.
