What is the reason behind the decrease in AlDub's popularity?

It all started from a split-screen puppy love act and months later the audience are clamoring for the pair to get it real.

The pair that we are talking about is none other than the on-screen loveteam of Maine 'Yaya Dub' Mendoza and Alden Richards or better known as 'AlDub'.

Pulling in high ratings and breaking Twitter records, the "AlDub" phenomenon's facade appears to be getting more and more unbreakable, even besting rival station's formidable loveteams of "KathNiel", "JaDine", and "LizQuen" in terms of popularity.

But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.

From million tweets down to a bunch of thousands. The ratings gap against rival program "It's Showtime" is also very close. Some even suggested that the ABS-CBN's noontime show has completely turned it around and left Eat Bulaga behind.

People are still gaga over the "AlDub" product, but it wasn't as great as it was. Maybe it grew too good that when the stage of decline started, it fell hard. It happens to every commodity in the world and even the seemingly invincible "AlDub" is no exception.

Experts and fans alike deduced the likely two culprits behind AlDub's popularity drop.

Yaya Dub no more

Audience, especially television viewers, are natural thrill-seekers. Part of AlDub's success was due to Yaya Dub's character that is nothing like we see all the time. She was a shy, goof-faced clumsy underdog who can't even communicate properly. Hence, resorting to Dubsmashing and fan signing while talking to Alden. That element somehow enthralled the fans that made them wanting for more.

Yaya Dub's character is easily relatable to the fans.

But as Kalyeserye episodes have gone by, Yaya Dub started to break away from her own shell. She started talking and revealing her own voice. From a complete girl-next-door reject to a glamorous up-and-coming talent in Maine Mendoza, she abandoned the one that people loved the most. In effect, she just became a cliche celebrity, completely stripped of her unique allure.

Gone too far

In the height of AlDub's massive commercial success, producers and organizers came up with an idea to set up a grand event to stage the much-anticipated physical meet of Yaya Dub and Alden Richards. The spectacle was entitled "Tamang Panahon" and living up to its hype, it caused a massive surge in television ratings.

Eat Bulaga got a major spike in ratings on the day of "Tamang Panahon".

The event also posted a record-breaking 41 million tweets on Twitter with the hashtag code #AlDubEBTamangPanahon, surpassing the FIFA World Cup match between Germany vs. Brazil that got 35.6 million tweets. A social media success, indeed.

But the event was also deemed to be the apex of the whole Kalyeserye and AlDub story arc. Most of the viewing public believed that Eat Bulaga should have ended the whole thing during the course of "Tamang Panahon". People felt that Eat Bulaga already killed the mystique wrapped around AlDub since Yaya Dub and Alden Richards have already met and spoke therefore there is no sense extending it to another run. That could explain the sudden drop in ratings after "Tamang Panahon".

Yaya Dub's mysteriousness through her Dubsmashes coupled with the thrill of seeking her first meeting with Alden Richards is what endeared the fans in retrospect. Now all of these elements slowly faded, why should the people tune in to them?
