Terrorist Attack rocks Istanbul Airport

At least 36 people are dead and 147 other wounded after multiple suicide bombings at Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport on Tuesday night.

According to Istanbul's governor, three suicide bombers carried out the attack. One of the bombers opened fire at the international terminal entrance then blew himself up while a police officer wrestled one of the bombers to the ground prior to detonation. Another suspected attacker was hit by a police before the explosions.

The attackers detonated themselves before entering a security checkpoint at the airport's entrance.

A senior Turkish official confirmed that the Islamic State group is behind airport attack. According to U.S. officials as told to NBC News, it's "very likely" that the attack was work of 35 terrorists ISIS sent to Turkey ahead of Ramadan.

Three attackers carrying weapons arrived in a taxi to Istanbul's Ataturk airport, one of the world's busiest airports. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim confirmed that there was no security lapse at the airport. But an airport security officer told ABC News that the first attacker tried to enter the airport with a gun, and later spotted to enter through security at the entrance of the airport.

According to the security officer, once he was spotted, he started to shoot and was then shot by officers. During the commotion, the second attacker began to shoot before blowing himself up, while the third ran outside of the building and blew himself up just outside the airport in a place where taxis were waiting to transport.

The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms today's heinous terrorist attack at Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport in Turkey, which appears to have killed and injured dozens.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those killed, and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured.  We remain steadfast in our support for Turkey, our NATO Ally and partner, along with all of our friends and allies around the world, as we continue to confront the threat of terrorism," as said by White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest released in a statement.
