Pinay Actress is a Big Hit on a Kuwaiti Soap Opera

Dubbed as Philippine cinema's "Indie Princess," Pinay actress Mercedes Cabral, has been getting praise in the Middle East for her role in a Kuwaiti soap opera.

29-year old Cabral, who starred in indie films Serbis, Captive and Thy Womb, is the lead actress for the soap "Saq Al-bambu" (The Bamboo Stalk), which is modern-day Romeo and Juliet story of a Pinay helper working in Kuwait. 

The synopsis of the story is that Cabral's character, Josephine,  captures the affection of her employer's son, Rashid. Rashid intends to marry Josephine but his mother is against their love affair and is plotting to arrange him a marriage with someone else.

Produced by Sabbah Pictures, the show is being aired on Alrai TV and MBC Drama in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai in United Arab Emirates and other parts of the Middle East. 

Cabral's manager, Mark Shandii Bacolod, has been sharing clips of scenes showing Cabral in "Saq Al-bambu" on Facebook. Bacolod wrote: "This episode of Saq Al-Bamboo highlighting Filipino actress and MSB artist Mercedes Cabral is making noise on social media!"

Cabral is also part of the internationally acclaimed movie, Ma'Rosa.

"Saq Al-bambu is based on a book by Saud Alsanousi.
