If you're a Twitter user, now might be the best time to change your passwords.
It was reported Wednesday that 32 million Twitter credentials were leaked and being traded and sold on the dark web, which "may contain an email address, a username, sometimes a second email and a visible password."
The hackers obtained this information using malware designed to gather username and password details from web browsers, which rules out the fact that Twitter was hacked.
Twitter also made it clear that none among their users' credentials were obtained and that their systems have not been breached.
We securely store all passwords w/ bcrypt. We are working with @leakedsource to obtain this info & take additional steps to protect users.— Michael Coates ஃ (@_mwc) June 9, 2016
Even so, if you think you're on the list, feel free to check Leaked Source's database just to make sure. If you're in it and been using the same password on multiple sites then now might be the time to change all of them.
For additional security, you can also enable Twitter login verification, which will text a unique code to you phone every time you log into Twitter, thus preventing hackers from worming their way in.
Also, it is always important to make a unique code and just type lazy sets of words and numbers which are way too easy to guess. It is always recommended to use passwords with combination of letters and numbers. Go brainy if you must! This is the reason why they have a password strength meter in the first place. Remember?
