Michelle Obama’s Instagram post about Yemeni student went viral

On Saturday, Michelle Obama posted on her Instagram, a special praise to a female Yemeni Muslim who just because the first person from her family to get a college degree.

The literature student, Orrube Almansouri, get the second-highest grades of anyone in the 2016 graduating class, walking the stage as the salutatorian of City College of New York in Manhattan.

The First Lady’s Instagram post went viral instantly, with Yemeni and other Instagram users all over the world flooding comments of pride and praises.

Orruba was born and raised in Yemen, stepping foot in New York for her first day of high school in 2006. It was here she discovered her passion for writing and literature and the desire to pursue a college degree. Orubba broke her family tradition by becoming a first generation college student. Today, she walks across the graduation stage as the salutatorian of the @CCNYCityCollege Class of 2016. #ReachHigher

Almansouri, a Yemeni immigrant to US, went to New York as a high school student in 2006. And on Friday, she just gave the salutatory address at the City College graduation ceremony.

According to ABC News, she had to debate and persuade her father to allow her to go to college since no women among her family had ever gone. She broke her family tradition and fought for her right to have an education, as much as anyone deserves to have.
