Indian eyes Guinness Record for longest hair

A real-life Rapunzel is residing somewhere in India.

Hailing from Vadorara, India's Gurajat state, meet the 60-year-old Savjibhai Rathwa, who at first glance is like holding a black rope wrapped around his arm.

But looking closely, that thing rolled over his arm is actually his hair, braided in a thick dreadlock that extends for up to 19 meters long.

Rathwa has been growing his hair for decades, treating it with care. He spends three hours washing it every two days and dries it by walking around his farm and having his grandchildren spread out his locks while he smokes his water pipe in the shade of a tree.

For optimal care, Rathwa eats only a vegetarian home-cooked diet without spicy food as much as possible. “When out on work, I survive on fruits only. I never ever take outside food,” Savjibhai Rathwa said. He simply eats a banana as his snack.

To his part, he never thought of applying for a Guinness World Record but something has changed his mind. He told reporters, “I intend to apply for it, if someone call help me with the proceedings.” A local non-profit has agreed to help him with all the documentation required for the application.
