Change is coming: Countdown to a new government

Change is coming. With only four days left before the new president officially takes the wheel, here's the question: Are you ready for it?

The Filipino people are still having mixed feelings of hope, relieve, excitement, doubt and fear as the upcoming president of the Philippines Rodrigo "Rody" Roa Duterte walks his way to the throne and apply his new methods of governing this country.

Change is coming, as he says it.

Rodrigo Duterte already gained the reputation of being the unbreakable and 'criminal-feared' Mayor of Davao. Yet, he is also known for being a humble man and a man who wishes nothing but everything simple.

With the number of crimes of any sorts pilling up in this country, may it be in the alleyways, the terminals or within the depths of the government itself, the people have finally had it, placing this fearless man on the highest authority with expectation of cleansing this country even if it reached the hardest way. "It would be bloody," as quoted from Duterte himself.

If you voted for Duterte, then you know that this country has suffered enough. It needs redemption. It needs something new. It needs its people back in their respective places. And that's what he is going to do. You voted for him, better start learning to walk by his rules.

Though his methods are mostly unorthodox and harsh, Davao people have always claimed it to be very effective. And now, the people and wishing these methods to be implemented to the whole country.

But, are we willing to face the consequences?

Duterte plans on implementing curfew for minors and youths are already complaining about it, saying that the new president is bad for taking away their freedom. Little did they know that the main purpose of the curfew is for the safety of youths themselves, and for the fact that parents can be confident enough to know that their kids will be home early and safe.

Duterte highly recommends to take back death penalty. Is it good or bad? For those who have seen or experienced how much Filipinos are oppressed and couldn't even get a goodnight sleep in fear for criminals or in fear of past traumas of such hideous pasts done by such vile people, this is a good decision. To understand Duterte's goal in this, it is not that death is always the right thing to do. But under his law, some people deserves to die depending on how bad their crimes are. This will also teach people a lesson to quit such crimes and try their best to do good. It's threatening and dangerous. But for the criminals who have no fear, you better think twice.

Just a few weeks after the election, this new leader's appeal already shook the country. If you can totally feel his power now, wait til he takes the job officially on Thursday. Feel the "Duterte Effect."

One of these effects are the sudden taking down drug industries by the police forces, long before the inauguration. Though this may sound good, it also raises some suspicions, even in the eyes of Duterte himself. The police force should have been doing this long before Duterte and not just now.

Abu Sayyaf freeing a hostage and China willing to discuss terms about the Scarborough Shoal are just a few of those hard solid people whom we thought wouldn't be willing to negotiate with anyone, yet willing to communicate with Duterte because he earned that enough respect.

These are just a few changes that Rodrigo Duterte has managed to show us before he becomes he takes on the role as the leader of this country. We see him as who he is behind nothing. The tactless, loudmouth president who has a heart to understand even the lowest Filipinos.

Now, before he takes the role, think again. Are you ready for it?
