PAGASA: Rainy season is here

Are you still working out the details of your next summer escapade?

Those plans may have to wait for next year's sunny season, as state weather bureau PAGASA confirmed the start of the rainy season, which usually lasts up until October or November.

Weather specialists observed weather behaviors which suggested more rains in the coming days, particularly in the afternoons.

"These prominent changes suggest strong manifestation on the shift from dry season to wet season," PAGASA administrator Vicente Manalo said in a statement.

Manalo also said that the eastern part of the country will experience more rains due to the Southwest Monsoon, or commonly known as habagat, already hovering around the archipelago.

PAGASA Assistant Weather Services chief Anthony Joseph Lucero said that no tropical cyclone has yet to hit the country in the coming weeks, though about 17 tropical cyclones are expected to enter the country from May to October.

The weather bureau added that El Niño still persists, expected to end in July. La Niña though, will start bringing heavy rains come August.
