Presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte said that he will defy Church teachings and consider imposing a 'three-child' policy.
Speaking to the reporters, Duterte said that this policy will "probably" include family planning program.
He didn't expound on the plan, but stressed that every family should not exceed three children.
"I only want three children for every family,” Duterte said on Sunday in Davao City. “I’m a Christian, but I’m a realist so we have to do something with our overpopulation. I will defy the opinion or the belief of the Church.”
The announcement puts him in a collision course with the bishops a day after he called them 'sons of whores' for continuous meddling in government policies. More so, Duterte is willing to defend his stance about this, even challenging Catholic bishops to a debate.
This is not the first time Catholic Church has stumbled against Duterte's reform.
Shortly after the polls, Duterte bared that if elected president, he will consider reinstating death penalty -- which is against Church's teachings.
