Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte
still held on to his promise to bury the late dictator and president Ferdinand
E. Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani.
In a press conference that ran until
very early Thursday morning, Duterte said that even though many Filipinos would
disagree with him, he believed that Marcos deserved to be buried at the
military cemetery not because he was a hero but because he had been a soldier.
Duterte advised the torture victims of
Marcos who had won court-granted compensation from his recovered ill-gotten
wealth to go back to the court and seek the release of the money.
He also said that the late dictator’s
sins should not pass on to his family.
The presidential bet also believes
that burying Marcos in the resting place of other Philippine presidents would
catalyze a nationwide “healing”. And that nothing would make him change his
mind at all.
