UST Law Student Died Due to Hazing, Manila Police District Confirms



Manila Police District confirmed on Monday that a freshman law student named Horacio Tomas “Atio” Castillo III from the University of Sto. Tomas had died due to hazing.
MPD medico-legal doctor said the victim had suffered a massive heart attack due to the injuries he attained.



Castillo’s body had undergone an autopsy at 9 a.m. on Monday performed by MPD medico-legal team and informed his family confirming that the student suffered hazing. It showed that the body’s both arms had a hematoma but had no burn marks.


Castillo’s parents cried and mourned over their son’s death.


Carmina Castillo, the mother of the law student, said that their son informed them that he was invited to join a fraternity saying that he was already done with the initiation and a welcome event for new members will be held on Saturday at UST.


Unfortunately, Castillo wasn’t able to get home and on Sunday morning, his body was found by a citizen on a sidewalk in Tondo. They brought him to Chinese General Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.


His parents were informed about the sad news at around 1 a.m. on Monday.

The university is now investigating the incident and will soon issue their official statement after the investigation.
