A convicted child rapist and killer was brought to a hospital after an inmate poured boiling water over his groin.
Gregory Keith Davies, 74, was admitted in a Melbourne-area hospital after acquiring extreme discomfort.
He was scheduled then to ask for an extension before his plea hearing and sentencing on Sept. 6, but he fails to attend because of trouble walking.
"He is in extreme discomfort, he's had skin grafts to 15 per cent of his body. Those grafts are now tightening up and causing him considerable pain," his attorney said.
Davies faces charges of rape and murder of a 6-year-old child named Kylie Maybury last Nov. 6, 1984 . It was just last year when a DNA test linked his semen akin to those found on the victim's underwear.
Davies admitted to the murder on what was supposed to be the first day of his pre-trial committal hearing.
It cost them 30 years before they finally acquired justice for the poor child.
"The dark is nearly over. It's been 33 years and we've been through hell. We can all live our lives again I've lost a lot of things in my life. I'm so totally over the moon that he [pleaded guilty]. It just makes life so much easier," the mother of the victim said.
